Hello Everyone!

Dear Friends and Family,

Ever since I was first diagnosed with ALS in October, 2007 I have received calls and emails and post cards and letters from all of you and I love them. At first I could respond by myself and was able to keep in touch with you and I so love staying in touch! But then as I lost the ability to communicate except with my eyes, I have lost touch with so many of you.

A while back my good friend Cathy Woodyard made a great suggestion. She said I should try starting a blog so I could post messages and photos and then you could read them at your convenience and reply where I could see it.

So here it is! Lets get started!

  1. Dewie, I'm delighted you have gotten this blog started -- with the help of Pete, of course. I am hoping this will be a place where you can "share your wisdom," keep us updated, and where we can stay connected to you.

I have to admit I haven't quite figured this all out, and I may never find my way back here to this same spot -- but I promise I'll try. I'll also share it with our mutural friends.

    Hugs to you, dear lady.

  3. This is so awesome that you have this new means to stay in touch! Isn't the internet great? And Pete is even "greater" :-) I'm so happy to know that things are going better for you.

  4. Wow, Dewie, a blog - I haven't figured out e-mail yet!! So glad we have a way to keep in touch - hate to keep asking "How is Dewie doing" - like you haven't heard that a million times. Just got back from grandson's grad. in Virginia - now I know why it costs so darn much to go to an academy - they had linen tablecloths and real silver at the luncheon - Go figure!! Off to Wis. for granddaughter's wedding in June and then again in July for 50th class reunion - figured 50 lbs in 50 years isn't all bad - 10 lbs a year is like 5 extra cookies a month - who knew.

Love having you keep us all in touch.

    lots of blog hugs, nicole

  8. Dewie,

It's your old Curves buddy, Anjanette. I'm so happy that you've started a blog. I think about you and the old crew all of the time. I don't go to Curves anymore so I'm very out of touch with everyone's lives. I did see the pictures of your new house online when Pete sent them out and i was so thrilled that you were finally in a beautiful spot that could provide you with as much comfort and peace.

I saw the girls last Christmas at our annual brunch. you were missed for sure!! I updated everyone then, but you missed out so I will update you now.

I'm still dancing. I'm also working my way up to a black belt in NIA (the type of martial arts dancing I do). Right now I'm on a 6 week respite. I tore my gluteus medias muscle from the tendon (kind of like tearing a hamstring). It hurts but I'm going to physical therapy 2 times a week and have 2 more weeks to go.

All the kids are in or out of college. The oldest, Bryan, graduated 2 years ago and now coaches men's soccer at Duke Univ. Ally, the middle, just graduated from Steven's and is joining her brother in NC to do her PhD studies at Chapel Hill. The baby, Justin, just finished his freshman year at SMU. George, my hubby, just finished his second year of law school. And we are thrilled at having a summer of free time and enjoy the empty nest together.

I credit you and your friendship at Curves as the beginning of a meaningful journey I've been on for almost 10 years. At the time I joined Curves, the morning group was so welcoming and friendly that it became so meaningful to dedicate the time to do something, anything to become more healthy. Your friendship played a huge part in that and when I think of you (often) I'm grateful that I had that environment to help kick start the success I've had. So, THANK YOU, dear Dewie.

So glad you have the blog - I'll keep in touch -

  9. Dearest Doodle, I think everyone of you should get a blue ribbon for bravery under stress of the feeding tube coming out. You Dewie for keeping your cool and having your "no big deal attitude" and Sarah for keeping her cool and not panicking and waiting as you said, and Maria for the quick thinking that made it all go as it was supposed to. I think you all three are marvelous and I love you.
Your board is coming along nicely and I am so excited. I think I can get it off to you on Wed or Thursday. It is better than I had hoped and will make life easier.
Friday Hillie arrives from Oaxaca for just 3 days then off to England and Provence and a whirlwind summer. I remember all that going going when I was young, but now it makes me tired to think about it! I notice that with age comes more embracing of that which is truly a reflection of the person that you have achieved being through all the gained wisdom and it is just satisfying to be basking in that which you have chosen already. When I was young it was exciting to be exploring all the possibilities and seeing how many ways of being there were in the world and I was full of the energy to check it all out. That hunger to "see it all" has now turned to a peacefulness in being thrilled by what my choices have given me to enjoy. Funny how one progresses through this life.
    I love you so much.

  10. Dear Dewie,
Lee and I just returned from two weeks in France visiting my sister and brother in law who are working in Cassis on the Mediterranean coast. We spent a few days in Paris at either end of our trip and thought of you serenading the Parisians! It is wonderful to hear from you and to find that you are doing well. A return to Hoffman for a Q2 in May brought back other great memories of you and of Pete. It is clear that you are still very much in the light! We send much love to you.

  11. Well, I’ve not figured out how this works…and as I don’t see my post I’ll guess it didn’t go through…first I learn how to do this “Blog,” and at that point I’ll help AMB. This is GR8…and we will catch on in time. Ciao, XOTV & AMB

  12. Hi Dewie,

It's your Hoffman Buddy Ann Livingston. It's so good to hear from you and get updates on how you are doing. I can't tell you how many times I have thought about you but I have been very bad about keeping in touch. I have so many fond memories of our time together at the Hoffman. Has it really been 3 years? I really loved that whole experience. It was also so fun to have you and Pete visit John and I in Cincinnati that summer. I'll look forward to hearing more from you. Much Love to you and Pete. Ann
